Track Of The Day #80: Martha Ffion – So Long

Posted by David McElroy

Martha Ffion

Martha Ffion‘s new single So Long is a melody laden pop wonder mixing regret laden lyrics looking back on the end of a friendship with a classic rock ‘n’ roll feel.  Martha, a.k.a. Claire McKay, has spoken about the influence on the track of the likes of the Everley Brothers and that is apparent but you also hear echoes of, for example, Buddy Holly in the simple but marvellously effective guitar lines that weave their way through the track.  It’s all topped off with Claire’s wonderful vocal which is gentle and soothing, giving the track a beautiful focal point.

So Long is a song that you simply can’t just listen to once, as after one play, you’re hooked in and you want to hear it again and again. Give it a listen – you’ll fall in love with it
