Track of the Day #118: Ette – Birthdays

Posted by Neil Wilson

Ette - Birthdays
The latest release from the ever effervescent Olive Grove Records comes from fresh pop duo Ette with a double AA side released on, wait for it, limited edition Christmas bauble.  Just who are Ette though?  Well, primarily the solo project of TeenCanteen‘s Carla Easton, she’s backed up with the talents of Joe Kane from Dr Cosmo’s Tapelab.

The pair’s first outing is a Christmas number called Spending Christmas With My Boy, and my Track of the Day pick Birthdays.  Fans of TeenCanteen will recognise Carla’s sugar-coated lyrics, but this is no band castoff.  Birthdays keeps a slow tempo but a finger snapping beat.  Recorded and produced by Joe Kane, it’s a speakeasy kinda vibe, dipped in pop, with the right amount of sentimentality mixed in.
